Civil 3D Tutorials – Roads Project Series
This page collects all my Civil 3D road design tutorials in one place.
Start with the Beginner projects and move on to the Intermediate and Advanced road designs as your skills grow.
In this series you practise real road design in Civil 3D, including access roads, residential streets, car parks, intersections, roundabouts, and industrial roads.
Beginner Projects
- Access Road to a Site
Create a simple access road in Civil 3D. You set up the drawing, build an existing ground surface, and design the road alignment, profile, corridor, and cross sections.

Add a short residential street to your model and finish it with a cul-de-sac turning head. This lesson covers local street geometry, horizontal curves, and corridor regions for small subdivisions.

Design a small car park that ties into the access road. You lay out the car park in plan, use feature lines for the edges, and apply grading to set levels and simple drainage.

Intermediate Projects
- Main / Collector Road
Move on to a larger main or collector road. This tutorial introduces design criteria, super-elevation, lane widening, and corridor targets so the road works at higher speeds.
Read the tutorial: Civil 3D Main Road / Collector Road Design (link coming soon) - T-Intersection (Access Road + Main Road)
Connect the access road to the main road with a T-intersection. You use the Civil 3D Intersection tools, create kerb returns, and join two corridors into a smooth junction.

Upgrade the layout to a full 4-leg intersection. This lesson focuses on managing multiple intersections, cleaning corridor joins, and refining the finished surface in busy junctions.

Advanced Projects
- Single-Lane Roundabout
Replace a junction with a single-lane roundabout. You set the roundabout geometry, build offset alignments, create the central island, and model a more complex corridor.
Read the tutorial: Civil 3D Roundabout Design (link coming soon) - Industrial Access Road with Truck Turning Path
Design an industrial access road suited for heavy vehicles. Wider lanes, larger radii, and checked truck turning paths make this project feel close to real-world road design work.

How to Use This Civil 3D Road Design Series
- Start with the Beginner projects if you are new to Civil 3D road design. These tutorials cover the core tools: surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, and basic grading.
- Move on to the Intermediate projects once you are comfortable with the basics. They show how to handle junctions, intersections, and more detailed corridor models.
- Use the Advanced projects when you want to practise roundabouts, industrial access roads, and more realistic design situations.
I will keep updating this page with new Civil 3D road design tutorials and videos, so you can return here anytime to continue learning Civil 3D roads and corridor modelling.
